It's not about discrimination, it's about creating a safe space and shaking up gender expectations in the academic environment. The problem we're discussing here is not the exclusion of men, but the exclusion of genderqueer individuals, who may need safe spaces and can challenge patriarchal norms at least as much as woman-identified people.Kyriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01488063301300315710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3683546417186768820.post-61007708610300229162011-08-03T13:08:29.214-04:002011-08-03T13:08:29.214-04:00Thought you'd like to know that the last of th...Thought you'd like to know that the last of the single-sex colleges at Oxford converted (St. Hilda's, all-woman until 2006). This should be done across the board. If we don't believe in discrimination by sex/gender (whether self-identified or otherwise) then they have no foundation. Universities are where people should have their eyes opened, not just see a narrow subset of social attitudes. What are your thoughts on places like Harvey Milk High School in New York? Part of me sees the need for such an affirming institution, and the other side of me sees it as a cop out of sorts, allowing a school district to send 'those students' elsewhere rather than reforming the culture of the traditional school.BostonDreamerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06826554823249110613noreply@blogger.com
